Day 4 - August 21: West Edmonton Mall

After waking up, Heather's mom declared that we would be visiting Jubilations Dinner Theatre for dinner that night.  Jubilations is a sister theatre to Celebrations in Winnipeg, and they play a lot of the same shows.  The show they were planning at this particular moment in time was called Night at the Museum of Rock n' Roll.  The concepts behind it was very similar to the movie Night at the Museum, where a variety of characters come to life and there are problems to overcome and stuff.  Ultimately, I didn't get to see it (apparently penguins are frowned upon in dinner theatres), but Heather seemed to find it quite entertaining.

Anyway, Jubilations is tucked away in a corner of West Edmonton Mall (West Edmonton Mall has a lot of corners!).  The mall also contains the following things:
1. An amusement park
2. An aquarium
3. A water park
4. Stores
5. A ship
6. Mini golf
7. Bowling
8. Probably some other stuff
Since that is Quite a Few things, it was decided we would make a day of hanging out in the mall.
We saw some fish:

The ugliest frog I have ever seen...

And some penguins (I thought they looked kind of sad, I wish I could have gone and cheered them up.  They probably haven't been on nearly as many adventures as me).

And a pirate ship!  Actually, it's not a pirate ship, it's a replica of the Santa Maria, but it LOOKS like a pirate ship (also, there are pirates trying to take over the ship), and that is close enough for me.  While we were there, someone got their wedding pictures taken on the ship, which was kind of funny.  Heather really liked the pir-Santa Maria, so she took LOTS of pictures of it (from all sorts of angles, it looked totally different from every perspective).

We watched the sea lion show, but sea lions and penguins don't really co-exist, and also we weren't in the best spot to see, so the pictures are lousy (I'm not in any of them!)

Heather and I did a wander around the mall and took a look at Chinatown...

And the mini golf course...

And Heather spent a fair amount of time in the HMV superstore, taking advantage of the lack of PST in Alberta.

After dinner, we returned to the hotel for bed.  It would, in fact, be our last night in a bed for quite some time, and we definitely needed to take advantage of the comfort of blankets and a central heating system! I'm a penguin, so I don't mind cold, but I'm told that human beings like to have an escape from cold every once in a while.

I think I want to be a pirate when I grow up... But only if I can captain the pir-Santa Maria that's in West Edmonton Mall right now.
